Sebontika Bose (XI) & Subhayan Roychowdhury (IX) participated in essay writing and painting competitions organised by SAIL on the topic ‘Centenary Year of Champaran Movement and Sabarmati Ashram’. Sebontika Bose (XI) & Subhayan Roychowdhury (IX) received consolation prizes in this category. Adrija Saha (VII) received the 2nd prize in painting.


Earth Day was celebrated in our school. Various programmes including workshops and seminars were organised on this occasion. The week-long celebration started with a seminar on e-waste management by the Vice-Principal of the school Mrs. Sujata Ghosh. Mr. Ramesh Chandran, Head of Vinisha, conducted a seminar which was followed by a tree plantation programme. A creative writing competition in English, Hindi & Bengali was conducted for the students of classes X & XI. The class VI students were shown a documentary and the class VII students participated in a poster making competition. Students performed a skit and a dance as part of the closing ceremony.


Our students participated in the Sanskrit Chanting, Story-Telling and Indology Quiz Competition organised by Sankara Institute of Philosophy and Culture to develop awareness for this ancient language. The following students received Certificates and Books in various categories.

Heartfulness (Sahaj Marg Meditation) organised a Meditation Session for students of class XI.

Athletico De Kolkata organised the ATK Grass Root Level Programme 2017 at the school grounds. 600 students of classes VI – IX participated in this development programme for school students.

Our school participated in the Shri Shikshayatan School Fest, Jubilare. Marisha Ghosh (X) & Sayantan Sengupta (X) won prizes in creative writing. Riddhi Paul (IX), Chandreyi Mitra (X), Sharanya Pradhan (IX), Parishi Arora (X), Shinjini Kar (XII), Rupkatha Roy (XII), Kathakali Roy (X), Baichitraa Chatterjee (IX) won the 3rd prize in fusion dance.

In the 13th Kolkata Cup National Karate Championship 2017 organised by International Karate Federation at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Diganta Patra (VIII) won a gold medal in Kata.

Our students participated in ‘Kalakosh’, the inter-school fest organised by South Point High School.

Our school organised ‘The Pratap Chandra Chunder Inter-school Painting and Photography Competition’ to pay tribute to the renowned educationist and creative genius, Shri Pratap Chandra Chunder, the former Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkata Kendra. Several reputed schools of Kolkata participated in the event. The prize distribution ceremony was held on 12th May 2017.

The teachers of the secondary wing of BGKV attended a workshop by Mrs. Saloni Priya on ‘The Problems of Adolescence and Stress Management’.

Classes VI – XII paid tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on the occasion of his 156th birth anniversary through cultural programmes which included songs, poems, plays, quiz and antakshari.

A physical education workshop was organised in our school by Saraswati Publication House. The Resource Person was Dr. Alok Banerjee, the Retired Vice-Chancellor of the Kalyani University.

The Power Grid orporation of India Limited organised an essay writing competition on the ‘Life and Achievements of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay’ in which the students of Class IX participated. Olivia Biswas, Archita Pachisisa, Pratyasha Kar and Archisman Das secured the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions respectively. They received certificates and cash prizes.

National Integration Camp was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kodagu Vidyalaya, Madikeri, Karnataka. Ishika Paul(XI),  Shubhomitra Saha(XI), Parishi Arora(X), Sambit Saha(X), Sarthak Chakraborty(X) and Rik Bhattacharya(X) attended the six- day camp with an escort teacher. The students participated in various activities like Yoga, Walkathon and Workshops on traditional dance forms, music and theatre. The children were taken to” Talacauvery”, the birthplace of river Cauvery and also enjoyed local sightseeing and bird-watching.

NCC KOLB celebrated World Yoga Day at the NCC Ground where 45 students of our school participated.
Students of VI, VII, VIII and XII presented a yoga display in the school auditorium to observe the day. 

An interactive session with the parents of Class X was held in the school to make the parents aware of the discontinuation of the system of CCE by CBSE and introduction of compulsory board examinations for Class X from 2018.

The Sauce Brand Communication organised a film based quiz to inculcate a love for Bengali Movies among school children. The students enjoyed a film based on Satyajit Ray’s book ‘Royal Bengal Rahasya’.

Arnisha Chowdhury (Class X) won the gold medal and was adjudged the grand champion in the West Bengal Inter-School Shooting Championship organised by Bengal Rifle Shooting Association.

In an inter-school chanting competition organised by ISKCON, Souraggi Roy (VII) bagged the first prize. She won a trophy and books.

The Computer Department of our school participated in a ‘Faculty Training Programme on Scratch and App Inventor’ by Google organised at ‘Future Foundation School, Kolkata. Scratch and App Inventor are attractive and user-friendly softwares which are expected to attract students and enhance their interest in Computer Science by enabling them to learn complex programming logic easily.

An interactive session was organised in the school auditorium with the parents of the students of Class IX. 

In the H.P.Lohiya Memorial Debate was held at Abhinav Bharati High School our school secured the 2nd Runners-Up position.16 reputed schools from Kolkata participated in the debate. Rishi Raj Mukherjee (XI) & Soumyadeep Chowdhury (XI) represented our school. They received a special mention from the judges, as well.

An interactive session was organised in the school auditorium with the parents of the students of Class XI. 

Our school participated in an inter-school Hindi essay writing competition organised by S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences. Priyanshi Singh (X) won the 2nd prize. She got a cash prize of Rs. 3000, books and stationery. The other participants received participation certificates.

Our school participated in the prestigious Debanjan Sen Football Tournament organised by Debanjan Sen Foundation.

Students of our school participated in Indian International Model United Nations, 2017, organised by the New Town School. Rishi Raj Mukherjee and Nibedita Mondal earned a verbal mention. Aurna Mukherjee won the best Reporter prize.

3 teams from our school participated in an ‘Environment Quiz’ organised by Excelsiors Club at the Birla Academy auditorium, to celebrate World Earth Day. All the 3 teams qualified for the final round. Anirjit Chatterjee and Pratyaya Bhattacharya of Class XII won the Runners-Up trophy.

An interactive programme on ‘Career Awareness’ was conducted for the students of class XII by Mr. Siddharth Murarka, Chairman of Eastern India of Regional Council of the Institute of Company secretaries of India.

Our students became a part of the ‘Plant for Peace’ Movement organised by ‘Kadam’, an organisation in Madhya Pradesh. Their representatives distributed tamarind seeds in biodegradable soil bags to the students of classes VI & VII as a part of the ‘Kadam Beejaropan Abhiyan’.

Our students participated in the inter-school fest Euphoria’17, organised by BDM International School and won many prizes.

In the 3rd International Open karate Championship 2017, organised by the All India Seishinkai Shito Ryu Karate Do Federation at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, Shuvam Prasanna Gupta secured the 3rd position in the Team Kata (Boys above 16 years).

BGKV students participated in an inter-school literary event ‘Shabd’, hosted by Mahadevi Birla World Academy.
Shirsho Ghosh (XII), Hritam Mukherjee (XII) & Arya Pandit (VIII) attended a quiz workshop conducted by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, a well known theatre personality and quiz master. This was to celebrate the forthcoming centenary of Nelson Mandela. This was followed by a quiz competition held on 3rd August.

Garima Khanna (XII) attended a workshop on Hindi creative writing conducted by Mr. Arnab Mukherjee. This was followed by a Hindi creative writing competition on 2nd August 2017. She won the 3rd prize and received a bronze medal and a certificate.

BGKV students participated in the Commerce fest Bullionaire 2017, organised by Lakshmipal Singhania Academy. This fest was a platform for students to feel the pulse of the current business environment. Khushal Baid (XI) & Nikunj Pasari (XI) won the 3rd prize in the event Burry’s Broker.

Nandini (VIII) and Anwesha Kar (VIII) were awarded the 1st and 2nd rank in North 24 pgs District School Badminton Competition, in the U-14 category. The competition was organised by the District Council for School Games and Sports.

The 71st Independence Day was observed in BGKV. The Director Shri G.V Subramanian, Advisor Dr. (Mrs.) Anindita Chatterjee, Principal Dr. (Mrs) Rekha Vaishya, Vice Principal Mrs. Sujata Ghosh hoisted the National Flag. This was followed by a cultural programme by the primary & secondary sections of the School where the students, the staff & all assembled members paid homage to our Motherland. The students of ALOK sang a patriotic song.

Our students participated in ‘The Heritage Quiz’ organised by INTACH, an NGO at Shri Shikshayatan School. Aranya Sengupta (IX) & Rudrabikram Roy (VIII) qualified for the Kolkata Zonal semifinals.

Students of Class VII participated in a painting competition on ‘Cleanliness’ as a part of the ‘Swachh Bharat 2017’.

In the Stotra Competition was organised at Sankara Hall 4 students of the primary section - Mudit Guraria  Abhilash Khemka  Swapnattama Saha and Yanvi Majumdar won prizes in the first and second categories. Prizes were given away by the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi.


In the Inter-School Hindi essay CompetitionPerceptum’ organised by South Point High School under the aegis of M. P. Birla Smarak Kosh, Shivani Parey (XII) received the 2nd prize. She received a trophy, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 5000.  


The 4th Model Earth Summit (MES) was organised in the school. Students of classes IX to XII participated in this event where the committee witnessed discussion on ‘refugee crisis’ and the human rights of the refugees.  


18th July 2016: Our students celebrated the Van Mahotsav Week (Forest Week) by planting trees within the school premises.  


The school organised an Interschool Junior Athletic Meet-‘FUNSTRIKERS’. Five eminent schools of Salt Lake –Haryana Vidya Mandir, Salt Lake Point, Salt Lake Siksha Niketan, Apeejay School and the host school Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir participated in this meet. Our students won several prizes in different categories. Tannistha Mondal of Class V was declared the best player of the Meet. 


The school organised and hosted The Keventer Cup -2016, a football tournament where teams from various reputed schools participated.  


Several reputed schools of Kolkata participated in the annual inter-school Football Tournament Goalzz.


In the CBSE Far East Zone Swimming Competition held at Royal Global School, Guwahati; Anubhab Saha (X) won several prizes and qualified for the CBSE National Swimming Competition.


In the Bidhannagar Inter School Sub-Divisional Athletic Meet, held at SAI, BGKV participated and 20 students won prizes in different categories. BGKV qualified for the N. 24 Parganas School District Athletic Meet 2016.
